“Wedding Thriller” was written on 4 August 2026.
The song was created for Joe and Jem as a celebration of their wedding and the wonderfully unlikely circumstances that first brought them together.
Their story began at a university Student Union night.
It might have passed like any other night had the fire alarm not sounded.
Everyone was required to leave the building and wait outside. Among the crowd, Joe and Jem found themselves together and began talking.
Eventually, the alarm ended. Everyone returned inside and the evening continued.
Then the fire alarm sounded again.
Once more, the building emptied. Once more, Joe and Jem ended up outside together.
The first alarm created an unexpected opportunity for them to speak. The second ensured that their conversation did not end there.
At the time, the alarms were probably no more than frustrating interruptions. Looking back, they became the opening scene of a relationship that would eventually lead to a wedding.
That unlikely beginning became the central idea behind Wedding Thriller.
The song’s repeated question—
“Who set it off?”
—turns the fire alarms into a playful wedding chant.
The answers—
“Joe did!”
“Jem did!”
—are not intended as serious accusations. They transform the original interruption into part of the celebration and give everyone listening a moment they can recognise and join in with.

The other versions explore different interpretations of the same material.
None of them changes what the song is about.
They simply demonstrate how differently one story can feel when the arrangement, voice and musical style are changed.

Another important part of the song came from a long-running joke involving Joe’s cooking.
