Story Behind the Song
Song title: Maison de la Colline

Original inspiration: A beautiful home we stayed in near Apt, surrounded by the towns, villages and landscapes of Provence.
Musical direction: Gentle French café-style song led by accordion, warm, relaxed and lightly rhythmic, with an intimate natural vocal.
Approximate tempo: Unhurried, with a light travelling rhythm rather than a fixed dramatic build.
Key emotional idea: The feeling of finding a temporary home in a beautiful place, and remembering the small routines, nearby villages and quiet warmth that made it special.
“Maison de la Colline” was written on 3 June 2026.
The song was inspired by a beautiful home we stayed in near Apt, in Provence.
The house was called Maison de la Colline — the house on the hill — and it became the centre of the places, views and small routines that made the stay memorable.
The song is not built around one dramatic event.
It is about place.
It is about waking up somewhere peaceful, buying baguettes in Apt, looking out across Provence and knowing that several remarkable towns and villages are all within reach.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue brings waterwheels and cobbled streets.
Saignon feels quiet and still.
Gordes opens out beneath the sky.
Bonnieux sits in the distance.
Lacoste belongs to the close of day.
Together, those names create a map around one temporary home.
That became the central idea of the song:
Six places on the map, but one place we came to stay.
The lyrics are deliberately simple and repetitive.
They are meant to feel like a memory returning rather than a story being explained in detail.
The repeated title gives the house the feeling of a refrain — somewhere the listener keeps returning to as the surrounding landscape moves past.
Musically, “Maison de la Colline” was shaped as a gentle French café-style song led by accordion.
The arrangement should feel warm, light and unhurried, with enough movement to suggest travelling between villages without losing the calm of the house itself.
Acoustic guitar, light percussion, upright bass or soft piano could sit around the accordion, but the performance should remain intimate rather than grand.
The vocal should feel natural and relaxed, as though someone is remembering the holiday rather than trying to sell a destination.
At its heart, “Maison de la Colline” is a thank-you to a lovely home and the part of Provence that surrounded it.
It is about the rare feeling of staying somewhere unfamiliar that quickly begins to feel like your own place while you are away.
Not far from everywhere.
Peaceful, warm and still.
About the Demos: I write the songs and lyrics myself, then use demo tools to explore different musical interpretations, voices, arrangements and production directions.
The demos are not intended to be final finished productions.
They are there to demonstrate what the song could become with the right singers, musicians, producers, arrangers and artists involved.
